Wednesday 3rd February
Competition evening #1 Prints, "Shadows" and open
The subject for this competition must be the shadow of an object.  It is acceptable for the object itself to be included within the image, but it must be evident that the shadow itself is the key component and main subject of the image.  It is not acceptable for the shadow to merely be a supporting or incidental element.
Judge is Roger Crocombe LRPS, from the Imagez club at Weston Turville.

Any subject matter can be chosen for this category, provided that there are clearly 3 dominant objects.  They do not even have to be the same sort of object, but they must be the dominant elements. Any image which relies on more or fewer key components is not acceptable. (i.e. a football team photo is not acceptable, but an image of 3 players descending on a ball with the crowd and/or other players in the background, is acceptable).

April 2010

Wednesday 7th April
Competition evening #3 Prints "In The Studio" and open
The subject matter is unrestricted, but it must be evident that this is an artificial environment, (either from the setting or from the lighting) such as a studio portrait session or a table top still-life.  The image must be one which demonstrates a skill at setting up an image, rather than having simply been found.  As such, carefully recreated environments for wildlife images, i.e. moths on bark, are not likely to be considered as suitable subject matter, as this
could 'easily' have been taken in the wild.

Judge is Brian Pere from Duston CC (Northampton)

It is time for you to ditch the multi-colour, in your face, bold and brash imagery and concentrate on the graphic imagery of monochrome, whether that is a 'traditional' black and white image, a toned image, or even a picture which consists of a single colour (i.e. mono – chrome).  Tone and texture are traditionally the most prominent subjects for monochrome, but form and lighting are equally acceptable.
