January 2012

Wednesday 4th January
Casual evening: - Christmas presents review - look at the new programme - plan for the future.
The casual evening each month has a theme.  We can accept or ignore this theme depending on what else we find interesting to discuss but there will at least be a table, demo or short lecture on the theme to ensure the evening has a focal point.
Tonight's theme is 'Aperture' & 'How to make a digital image (PDI) for competition entry (JDC)

Wednesday 11th January
The John Harding Trophy for the Audio Visual of the year - judged by the members and we can pick the top three AVs for the Felicity Bickley Trophy against other clubs later in the year...

16th January to 11th February - PhotoImages 2012 exhibition at the Queen's Park Centre Gallery, Aylesbury, HP21 8LF hosted by the Aylesbury CC.
The gallery is open Monday to Thursday 10am to 9.30pm and on Saturdays 10am to 1pm


Wednesday 18th January
Practical: soap films: Clive, Colin and Peter have volunteered to lead us in this one. Bring your camera, tripod and wear your old trousers.

Wednesday 25th January
Speakers: Judy and Mark Buckley-Sharp L/ARPS CPAGB APAGB (Harrow CC) with their latest PDI travel talk: LYCIA - LAND OF MOUNTAINS Historic sites and modern villages in SW Turkey, combined to emphasise the mountains of Lycia rising steeply from the sea.

February 2012

Wednesday 1st February
Competition #1: PRINTS. Places and Open.
Places - landscapes, buildings, both. Taken at the right time of day/month/year, and the weather helping to create the mood. Show me the spirit of the place with clever lighting, the golden hour and/or post production.

PRACTICAL: intentional camera movement. Forget the tripod; come and wave it about in the hall....

Wednesday 15th February
SPEAKER:  Don Byatt, ARPS, EFIAP, MPAGB, BPE4* from the Oxford PS: 'Creative Photography' presented as PDI.
Following Don's prints & PDI lecture in November last year, we have booked him again for a digital talk showing how to be creative in the camera and in post-production on the computer.
Also on on 15th February 2012 we are drawn away to Whitchurch Hill Camera Club for the third round of the Rose Bowl 2012.

Wednesday 22nd February
The 'Triple 15' contest with ImageZ Camera Club (Aylesbury) and Princes Risborough Photographic Society.  Just 15 PDIs on each side and the winners gain a pack of beers! Plenty of time for chatting with two of our neighbouring CACC clubs!

Wednesday 29th February 2012
Speaker: Roger Crocombe LRPS: High Dynamic Range (HDR) photography. This 2-hour lecture discusses how to capture HDR images with the modern dSLR camera and then demonstrates how to process them using three different software packages: PhotoMatix, FDRTools and Adobe PhotoShop CS5, comparing the features and results along the way.

March 2012

Sunday to Wednesday 4th to 7th March
Focus on Imaging at the NEC, Birmingham 10am - 6pm Sunday, Monday, Tuesday. 10am - 5pm Wednesday. There will be casual arrangements to share cars and tickets.

Wednesday 7th March
Competition #2: PDI. ICM and Open.  ICM = Intentional Camera Movement - panning at a motorsport event - following the action of a flying aeroplane or bird or just using the technique to create your own work of art jumping up and down in bluebell wood?
The judge is
Peter Mylchreest.

PRACTICAL: Rain Forest (bring old towels, tripod and camera and be prepared to go home a little damp) and combined Casual evening:

Thursday March 15th
Central Club Challenge.  Hosted by New City PS at Tickford Centre in Newport Pagnell, 5 digitally projected images from each club. Our entry has to be in some weeks ahead of time so please ensure that Jim Waddington has your best PI images at 1400x1050 well before the event.

Thursday 29th March
Felicity Bickley AV Trophy.
Hosted by Ampthill & DCC at Millbrook Village Hall, MK45 2JD An interclub competition for short AV's - less than 5 minutes - for local clubs. The 2 winning AVs from the
BCC competition on January 11th will be submitted.

April 2012

Wednesday 4th April
Competition #3: PRINTS.  In The Rain and Open.
In the Rain = Taking images during or after a rain shower is the key, a strong pavement reflection or a refracted raindrop image, the overall subject matter can be broadly interpreted. in any case pack your mac and umbrella and get shooting.

Wednesday 11th April
PRACTICAL: Time Keeping.  I think this will be macro lenses photographing watches whilst their second hands are moving. The Sermon Timer will be out with the skull and cobweb spray. Come prepared for table top.

Sunday 15th April
CACC Championships Day at Amersham: The Interclub print championship, the Interclub PDI and the Chiltern Hundred PDI members exhibition selection.  Titles and images to the organisers by the 19th March for the PDIs, print titles by the 19th March but prints on the day.

SPEAKER: Brian Worley: Ex-Canon UK demonstrator and digital camera expert. Here to give you some hints and tips on camera use, going deeper into those menus and custom functions then you have ever dared reach on your own.  Although Canon predominates tonight, the techniques are applicable to all camera brands. Wednesday 2nd May
Competition #4. PDI.  Keeping Time and Open.
Keeping Time - Images for this subject should include a time piece as the main feature.  Any kind of time keeping device including sundials, calendars, hour glasses etc.

Wednesday 9th May
SPEAKER: Alan Colgrave ARPS (Harrow CC). Television to the Photographic Studio. Illustrated with prints, this talk follows Alan's career from being a freelance TV cameraman to running a photographic studio in Central London. http://www.theboutiquestudio.co.uk/
The main subject is portraiture and photographing people and displays some of Alan's recent 'green screen' work.

also on Wednesday 9th May DEADLINE !  This is the month for our entry to be with our twin town of Mouvaux, France - this year’s theme is ‘Fantastic’ or ‘Fantastic Scenery’  The CD of selected images needs to be in France by May 25th we are thus making a closing date of May 9th to give the selection committee the benefit of two weeks to select, copy to CD and post the Jiffy Bag ™ to France !!!

Sunday 13th May
CACC Finals day (The Rose Bowl) at Amersham:  Best Panel of Prints, Audio Visual individuals' trophy, Rose Bowl final.  Print titles by the 19th March, prints by the 15th April at the Championships day, AV titles and entries to Ian Bateman by the 19th April.

Wednesday 16th May
PRACTICAL: Architecture would be a tricky one in the hall so we will have a practical portraits skills share session with models from Adrian Davies' contacts book.  We should all be full of tips from Alan Colgrave's talk last week.

Monday 21st May
The Three Bs Contest:  Three way print battle for the Rosewood Award: Banbury are hosting Buckingham and Badby.  It will be held at Banbury's normal venue, Chenderit School, Archery Road, Middleton Cheney starting at 7.30pm.  The judge is Colin Southgate FRPS DPAGB from Harpenden PS. Each club enters 16 prints, with a maximum of three prints from any photographer.

Wednesday 30th May
Fun Competition - MACRO - returns for the second year by popular demand.  Take a weird and wonderful close up image of an inanimate object and let the audience try and guess what it is.  The member guessing the most correct objects will be the winner.  Image requirement guidelines will be supplied beforehand.

June 2012

Please be careful when planning in early June. The late May Bank Holiday is on the first Monday in June (4th) and the following day is a Tuesday Bank Holiday for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee ... and it's half-term!

Wednesday 6th June
Competition #5. PRINTS. Architecture and Open.
Architecture = Images of the exterior or interior of buildings of all types.  Images should not be taken to represent a building in a pictorial fashion i.e. verticals should be vertical and crazy angles are not acceptable.
The judge tonight is  is Paul Mitchell ARPS from Amersham PS

Farm walk Rectory Farm, Tingewick, led by Jeff Wright. (pending) An early start to catch the light and the weather.  Meeting at dusk moves to the Royal Oak in Tingewick's Main Street.

Stroll or casual evening out of doors, details tba.  Keep an eye on the notice board and the website.

Wednesday 27th June
RAMBLE with Bernie.  The Thornborough Mounds and finish at the Two Brewers.  Details on the notice Board and on the website nearer the time. 7PM start.

July 2012

Wednesday 4th July
WADAS PRINTS EXHIBITION.  We meet tonight with the Winslow and District Art Society (WADAS) and compare the painters' interpretation of our themes with our photographic works.  The titles this year are from our competition list for prints: Places, In the Rain, Architecture and Silhouettes.

Wednesday 11th July
GARDEN PARTY at the home of Mike and Christine Kirby in Finmere.  Details nearer the time but we usually assemble at 7pm, food is at 8-ish and there is a small charge. Bring your partner.way!

Wednesday 18th July
WALK TO THE PUB.
  We had such good evenings last year in and around Stony Stratford that we intend to repeat it. Riverside Walk - Stony Stratford and surrounding area. Meet up in the parking area on the bridge between Stony and Old Stratford for a leisurely walk along the River Ouse - around a wetland nature reserve and through the lovely historic town. Finishing with a well-deserved drink in a town pub.  7pm prompt start or you might go the wrong way!

There will also be an announcement of the titles for the Versatility Challenge contest in two weeks time.

Wednesday 25th July
Speaker:  Talk by three members, with PDI images, from the top three from last year's contest, they were: Paul Raynor, John Goldsworthy and Pete Silver

August 2012

Be careful when planning in August.  London 2012 Olympics = 27th July to 12th August (29th August to 9th September is the Paralympics)

Versatility Challenge - the judge is Colin Kitchen.  Last year's winner Adrian Davies passed on the responsibility to Colin, who will announce the titles two weeks before.  Digital projection (PDI) only.  Entries must be from stock and not taken for the contest.

Casual evening: Tonight's theme is 'Fixing the Shadows' - a little photographic history.  Also we will perform a dummy run for next week's event, calibrating the three projectors and checking the screens and techniques....

Wednesday 22nd August
New competition format:
Extra event is the
Tryptych and trio competitions.  PDI onto three screens.  An idea stolen from Wantage CC, the first session before the break is for three images, making a panel, projected on three screens.  After the break we have one screen with each image composed of three pictures blended, collaged or 'joined'. Full details and layout suggestions are on a separate sheet on the Notice Board and available from your comp sec.

SPEAKER: Talk by three members, with prints, from last year's leaders who are invited to share their techniques:  John Credland, Mike Kirby, Peter Silver.

Wednesday 5th September
Competition # 6. PDI. Worm's Eye View and Open.
Worm's eye view - show something ordinary which becomes spectacular when taken from a very low angle. Trees, skyscrapers, cathedrals, anything.  Imagination required!

Wednesday 12th September
PRACTICAL: Silhouettes.  Victorian profile photography could be a good idea http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silhouette and the Javanese shadow play http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wayang.  We have some ideas for Photograms on a light-box etc.  None of these needs sophisticated lighting and yet will exercise the imagination.

Wednesday 26th September
Michaelmas.  A casual evening, bring and buy sale ending with an auction.  Bring along those items you don't use: gadgets, lenses, old cameras, filters, books and magazines, bits and bobs.  Put them on the table for sale/swap/exchange and at the end we will auction those (with your permission) that really HAVE to go!

October 2012

Wednesday 3rd October
Competition #7 PRINTS. Silhouettes and Open.
The main subject should be lit in such a way that it appears in silhouette (no detail seen) but it should also be recognisable.  Lighting can be natural or otherwise but try to avoid burn out.

Speaker: Colin Southgate FRPS DPAGB (Harpenden PS) Infra-Red and other diversions -'a look at the wonderful world of Infra Red photography with diversions into one or two of my other favourite techniques'.

Wednesday 17th October
Speaker: Ian Bateman FRPS MPAGB Audio Visual My Way - hints and tips. Ian is the CACC's AV expert and will show some good ways of using Pictures2exe to make a simple AV and after the break will delight us with his own, complex, award winning creations.  We are advertising this evening to other clubs and AV workers in the area so get in early if you want a good seat!

Wednesday 24th October
Casual evening:  Casual skills-share evening:  Open Laptop night - plug in and show us your stuff?
Tonight's theme is Convergence-moving Pictures ( Is it proper? Will it catch on?)

Wednesday 31st October
Practical: Studio evening: table top pumpkin, candles, wine, cider, torchlight, harvest festival, etc AND, in the corner, magnetic fields on a lightbox, with iron filings. In colour!

November 2012

Tuesday 6th November
Three of our speakers are going to talk at Duston CC (Northampton).  Come with us and support the team:  John Credland, Adrian Davies and A N Other.  A reciprocal event early next year (16th January 2013) will give us 3 of their speakers in return...
On the same night:

CACC Rose Bowl 2012/13 round one against Wantage CC, Pinner CC and Princes Risborough.  To be hosted by Wantage CC starting at 1930 hrs.
Our entry has to be in two weeks ahead of time so please ensure that Jim Waddington has your best PDI images at 1400x1050 before mid-October.

Competition #8 PDI. Fields and Open
Fields = As the title suggests this image must contain depictions of fields, either a rolling view of fields of summer corn, a sporting field, field of play or for the adventurous an electrical / magnetic field; ingenuity is expected and encouraged.

This year's PRINTS:  A review of the current work COMBINED with the 'Members' Print Evening'.  After having shown your prints you leave the best one on the table and the members vote for their favourite at the end of the session.  There is a certificate for the winner.
