Competitions You Can Enter

Club members that have paid their memberships have the opportunity to enter a number of competitions throughout the year. These competitions can be internal to the Club or an external competition. Below is a summary of the competitions available to members.

Internal Competitions

The internal competitions are run during the year and are broken down into; Multi-Event Competitions and Single-Event Competitions. All members are able to enter any of these if they wish.  Equally, you are most welcome to just come along and observe other members’ entries. 

The Judges used for these competitions offer constructive and supportive advice on your entries. This feedback allows you to form your own judgements about your photographs and receive a different point of view.

Annual Multi-Event Competition

The main club contest is ‘The Photographer of the Year’, (P.O.T.Y.), which comprises of 6 rounds which are for projected digital images (PDI) only. Entries for these rounds comprise of two SET subjects and two OPEN subjects. The Photographer of the Year trophy is awarded to the member with the highest combined score for all of these rounds and will also receive free club membership in the following year.
In addition to ‘The Photographer of the Year’, there are three additional category trophies to be won:

  • Best Scoring SET Assignment (PDI) Award
  • Best Scoring OPEN Assignment (PDI) Award
  • Best Scoring New Member Award

Print competitions are important to the Club.  We offer a standalone Print Competition, which is comprised of 2 rounds within the year.  Entries for these rounds comprise of four OPEN subjects.  This competition will be judged by an external judge.

Annual Single-Event Competition

The Versatility Challenge is an annual Projected Digital Image (PDI) fun event run in August where club members submit five images on five different chosen set subjects. These set subjects are announced by the previous winner two weeks before the competition. Images can be as tenuous as you like to the chosen subjects. Any images used for this competition must be drawn from existing photographs a member has, and shouldn’t be taken specifically for this contest. The winning prize is TBA. In addition, the winner selects the subjects and judges for the following year’s competition. This is a bit of fun at the end of the summer season.

The Instant Projected Digital Image (PDI) Battle is a team-based competition which may be held during the year.  Two teams versus each other, an image is displayed by the first team and the opposing team have to come up with a representative image, in quick-fire rounds under the clock.  The Tail Pipe Trophy is awarded to the winning team.

External Competitions

There are a number of regional and national events that are available for the Club and individuals to enter and are detailed below. These are based on the associations that we have with the CACC and PAGB.

CACC Associated Competitions

The CACC Chilterns Hundred Members Exhibition is an annual Projected Digital Image (PDI) competition that is judged on Championship Day in March.  It is open to any individual member of a Chilterns Association of Camera Clubs (CACC) club and is ‘Open” subject. Members’ image choice is entered via the club – one image per member.

The CACC Inter-Club Print Championship is an annual competition that takes place in March at the CACC Championship Day in Amersham. It is run by the Chilterns Association of Camera Clubs (CACC) and used to determine which two winning clubs will represent the CACC in the PAGB (Photographic Alliance of Great Britain) National Inter-Club Print Championship. Entry is at Club Level and our entries are selected from a pool of club images chosen by the Selection Committee.

The CACC Inter-Club Projected Championship is an annual competition that takes place in March at the CACC Championship Day in Amersham. The CACC Rosebowl Competition is an annual Projected Digital Image (PDI) inter-club competition with an ‘Open’ subject. This is a multi-event competition that takes place throughout the year where 32 clubs of the Chilterns Association of Camera Clubs (CACC) compete against each other for the coveted prize of the CACC ‘Rose Bowl’. Entry is at Club Level and our entries are selected from a pool of club images chosen by the Selection Committee.

PAGB Associated Competitions

The PAGB GB Cups for Clubs is an annual Projected Digital Image (PDI) competition that is ‘Open” subject and takes place in February. It is open to any club that is affiliated with The Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB). Entry is at Club Level and our entries are selected from a pool of club images chosen by the Selection Committee.

This competition comprises of three separate Events:

  • The GB Cup (Projected) – Open
  • The GB Cup (Projected) – Small Clubs*
  • The GB Cup (Projected) – Nature

* ‘Small Clubs’ refers to the number of entries a Club wishes to submit and not to the number of members of the Club.

The PAGB Inter-Federation Competition is a national Prints competition, run annually, that takes place in June.  Each Federation, ours being the CACC, submit entries from the members of their affiliated Clubs in four Categories – Monochrome Prints, Colour Prints, Open Projected and Nature Projected. Trophies are awarded to the winning Federations. PAGB medals and ribbons are awarded to individual images in each Category.

The PAGB Inter-Club Projected Digital Image Championship is an annual ‘Open’ category competition that takes place in July. The CACC nominates two Clubs to take part alongside the Finalists from the previous year. Clubs selected by the CACC to go forward to this competition, are based on the results of the CACC Inter-Club Projected Championship that happens in February. Trophies and PAGB medals are awarded to the winning Clubs. Medals are also awarded to individual images.

Independent Club Competitions

The Central Club Challenge is an annual Projected Digital Image (PDI) competition run in March. This is an ‘Open’ subject organised by New City Photographic Society.  The competition is competed by clubs from Beds, Bucks and Herts. Each club enters five PDIs to represent the club, plus a tie-breaker image. The images are judged live on the night. Entry is at Club Level and our entries are selected from a pool of club images chosen by the Selection Committee.

The Jubilee Trophy Competition is a competition with an ‘Open’ subject which alternates between PDI and Prints annually.  The competition is run by New City Photographic Society and Leighton Buzzard Photographic Club. Entries are organised by the individual, not the club, and should consist of a maximum of three entries. The photographer that is awarded the first place image will receive the coveted Jubilee Trophy.

The Rosewood Print Challenge Trophy is an annual ‘Open’ subject Print competition.  This is between Buckingham Camera Club, Banbury Camera Club and Badby & District Photo Club. Each club submits 16 mounted prints, with a maximum of 3 entries from individual members. Entry is at Club Level and our entries are selected from a pool of club images chosen by the Selection Committee.

The Terry Chapman Memorial Print Competition is an annual ‘Open’ subject event run by Rushden & District Photographic Society. This is a Print competition between the photographic clubs of Northamptonshire and surrounding areas.  Money raised at the event goes to the Oncology Unit at Northampton General Hospital. Entry is at Club Level and our entries are selected from a pool of club images chosen by the Selection Committee.

The Bedfordshire Invitation Inter-Club Competition is an annual Projected Digital Image (PDI) competition with an ‘Open’ subject.  It is open to any club in Bedfordshire and, by invitation, to other clubs on the borders of the county.  Clubs host the event in turn.  Two trophies are awarded for the winning and the runner-up clubs.  And the Grievson Shield is awarded for the best image of the competition. Entry is at Club Level and our entries are selected from a pool of club images chosen by the Selection Committee.

The XRR Visions is an annual Projected Digital Image (PDI) competition that is ‘Open’ subject and takes place in November. It is open to any member of a club that is affiliated with The Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB).  There is also the option for 3 competing individuals to be registered as a club team for a separate trophy. The individual trophy is presented by XRR Photographic Society and is not returnable, but the Club trophy is awarded by Chiswick Camera Centre and must be returned each year.

The Chiltern ImageZ Competition is an ‘Open’ subject annual Print competition that is run by ImageZ Camera Club. Any member of a camera club affiliated to the Chilterns Association of Camera Clubs (CACC) can enter this competition. Entries are organised by the individual, not the club, and should consist of a maximum of three Prints.
