Frozen in Time…
First of the many tabletop stations set up were frozen flowers that John Credland prepared. These were done when the flowers were flowering and then were froze to retain their colour. John tried different ways in which to freeze them for us, some totally immersed in water, while others were partially immersed. This provided a very different feel to the photograph. Luckily there was some additional ice that had frosted over the partially immersed flowers to provide an additional dimension.
Chilling Objects
In addition, we had a number of objects that had been set in ice. These ranged from money to Gin bottles, to our own ‘Sword in the Stone’ story! Well, more of a knife in a block of ice. Now, was anyone able to remove it and be named King…? Well, Martin was capable of this task…..admittedly this was done with the use of a blow torch! Slightly cheating, I know. So, we have not found a new King yet!
We also had a pair of Ice Hands as well which we put flowers and rings on to add interest to. Providing a very different subject matter. Someone mentioned ‘money’, didn’t they? Ah, yes, Martin decided to freeze a number of notes into a bowl of water to provide a hemispherical subject to try and capture. The one thing that came out of this evening was that it is quite challenging although getting the right angle, lighting and lens helps a lot.
Gin And Tonic Anyone
To finish off we had some Gin and Tonic miniatures frozen with ‘Ice and a Slice’. In addition to this, there was a number of other standalone fruits and flowers encased in ice to shoot. This all resulted in a very enjoyable and relaxed evening capturing a subject slightly different from normal and being creative.
