Fire was all around when we went to Milton Keynes for our Practical Evening last week. Fire extinguishers at the ready and blankets to hand we started the evening. First off, Colin Kitchen stepped up with his flailing wire wool display which was a great starter for ten. This allowed us to settle into the evening and work out the settings in the near darkness of our setting. Oh, yes, our setting…we were in a grungy underpass with graffiti. Perfect for setting the scene for our Fire extravaganza.
Wire Wool and Burning Hands
After we had completed a couple of wire wool shots, our model for the evening, Em Theresa stepped up. This was not going to be a standard model shoot though. Well, it was a fire-themed evening! Em Theresa had a hidden talent, she is a trained Fire-eater! This was the added element that really ignited the evening! To ease us into shooting her we started off with some ‘burning hands’. It was challenging getting the right shutter speed with the light that we had available. We didn’t particularly want to raise the ISO too high, as this would create a very noisy shot. After a bit of trial and error, everyone was set and shooting feverishly.
Wall of Fire
So, while Em Theresa changed outfits, we went on to another creation by Colin, with his Wall-of-Fire. After a couple of runs to practice, Em Theresa re-joined to pose in front and provide a silhouette for added drama. After our Wall-of-Fire was extinguished it was time for some more pyrotechnics. This time it was Em Theresa that stepped up to do some ‘skin burning’, nice! All of this was completed totally in a relaxed style with a constant smile or was it a grimace…!
Fire Breathing
Well, if all that had preceded was not enough, Em Theresa had another performance to provide us. This time it was Fire Eating. Yum! This was the highlight for the evening. Everyone was gathered round all in awe of how well Em Theresa could perform her act. We had just about half the club attend. This had been the best turn out we have had for an external event for a number of years. It was a great evening, with something very different to photograph. Thanks to Adrian Court for organizing the evening and Em Theresa for being a fantastic model and Colin Kitchen for all of his pyrotechnics.
